Reduction in headache days typically over 2 to 3 Botox cycles (6 to 9 months).

A specific protocol. Often best with neurology partnership.

What it is

Chronic migraine is defined as headaches occurring 15 or more days per month, with at least 8 of those being migraines, for at least three consecutive months. It's distinct from episodic migraine (less frequent), and the treatment approach differs.

Botox is FDA-approved for chronic migraine prevention and follows a specific protocol developed in the PREEMPT clinical trials: 31 injections across specific points in the head and neck, repeated every twelve weeks. The protocol is typically administered by neurologists or headache specialists.

Why Patients Seek Treatment

Clients come in exhausted by years of frequent headaches. They've tried multiple oral medications. They've heard about Botox for migraines and want to know if it's an option. We provide honest information and referral guidance.

01

What Causes It

Migraine causes are complex and multifactorial.

Genetics determine baseline susceptibility. Migraines run in families.

Hormonal patterns particularly estrogen fluctuations, drive many migraines in women.

Triggers vary by individual. Common ones include certain foods, sleep changes, stress, hormonal shifts, weather changes, and screen exposure.

Underlying medical conditions including sleep apnea, depression, or anxiety, can worsen migraine patterns.

02

Common Signs

Chronic migraine clients typically have:

Headaches on 15 or more days per month.

Migraine-type pain (usually unilateral, throbbing, often with nausea or sensitivity to light/sound) on at least 8 days per month.

Significant impact on work, family, and daily life.

Often a history of episodic migraines that progressed to chronic frequency over time.

03

Why It Changes Over Time

Chronic migraines often persist or worsen without treatment. The pattern can become entrenched over years.

With Botox per the PREEMPT protocol, most responders see significant reduction in headache days. Results typically improve across multiple treatment cycles.

04

How It's Commonly Addressed

Chronic migraine management is layered.

Botox per the PREEMPT protocol is FDA-approved and typically administered by neurologists or headache specialists every twelve weeks.

Preventive medications including beta blockers, anticonvulsants, antidepressants, and CGRP inhibitors are prescribed by neurologists.

Acute migraine medications for individual attacks: triptans, gepants, NSAIDs.

Lifestyle management including sleep, hydration, stress, and trigger avoidance.

Hormonal management for menstrual or perimenopausal migraine patterns.

How we approach chronic migraines

Chronic migraine Botox follows the PREEMPT protocol, typically administered by neurologists who specialize in headache medicine. The protocol involves 31 specific injection points across the head and neck, repeated every twelve weeks.

We refer clients with documented chronic migraines to a neurologist for evaluation and Botox treatment. Insurance often covers this when prescribed by a neurologist with appropriate documentation.

For clients whose migraines have a clear hormonal pattern (perimenopausal, menstrual), we discuss whether BHRT or hormonal optimization might help alongside the neurological treatment plan.

For clients with TMJ-related headaches that aren't truly migrainous, our masseter Botox may help directly. We discuss the distinction during consultation.

I was truly blown away after my appointment here. Every single person I interacted with, from the front desk to the providers who handled my treatments, was incredible! They made me feel so welcomed and cared for, and were both informative and genuinely kind. The space itself is spotless, cozy, and easily the most inviting place I’ve ever been for Botox. Michelle did my Botox and she was amazing! I also had a hydrafacial and dermaplaning, and I already can’t wait to come back again and again. You will not regret booking here!
