GentleMax Pro Plus from Candela is a dual-wavelength platform. 755nm alexandrite for lighter skin types and 1064nm Nd:YAG for deeper skin tones, used primarily for laser hair removal and select vascular and pigmented lesions. It's the gold-standard hair removal device across skin types.

For hair removal: the laser energy is absorbed by pigment in the hair follicle, heating it to the point of permanent damage. Only hairs in the active growth phase respond per session, which is why multiple sessions spaced weeks apart are required to catch all hair cycles.
For vascular and pigmented lesions: the wavelengths are absorbed by hemoglobin or melanin, heating and breaking down the target while sparing surrounding tissue.
Treatment time depends entirely on area. Small areas like upper lip take 5 minutes. Full legs may take 60 minutes. You'll feel a snap-like sensation with each pulse, cooled by the device's integrated cryogen spray.
Your provider assesses your skin tone, the area to be treated, and your goal (hair removal versus pigment or vascular). For hair removal, no plucking, waxing, or threading for four weeks before, and shave the area the day before treatment.
Cooled laser pulses delivered through a handpiece with contact cooling. Most patients tolerate without numbing. Small areas treat in five minutes; full body runs up to ninety minutes.
Mild redness and slight bumping around hair follicles for twenty-four to forty-eight hours. Treated hairs shed over the following one to three weeks (this is normal, not regrowth). Vascular and pigment work resolves over two to four weeks.
Hair regrowth is sparser and slower with each session. Vascular work clears within weeks. Pigment work fades gradually as the body clears the treated melanin.
Most clients need six to eight hair removal sessions spaced four to eight weeks apart for substantial reduction. Vascular and pigment work typically resolves in one to three sessions.

Wrong wavelength on darker skin causes pigment damage. We use Nd:YAG for Fitzpatrick 4 through 6 and match every setting to your tone, not the protocol default.
Lasers work in series. We plan four to six sessions for most concerns and explain what each session contributes to the cumulative result.
We talk about what laser can and can't do upfront. For deep texture or significant laxity, we name the limits and discuss alternatives.
Tanned skin can't be safely treated. We pause for four to six weeks after sun exposure and require committed SPF use during the treatment series.
Two main things: laser hair removal and vascular/pigment treatment for darker skin types. GentleMax combines two wavelengths (Alexandrite and Nd:YAG) in one device. Alexandrite is faster for hair on lighter skin. Nd:YAG is safer for darker skin tones (Fitzpatrick IV-VI), which is why it's our go-to laser for clients other devices can't safely treat.
