What it is

Hyperhidrosis is excessive sweating beyond what the body needs for cooling. It typically affects specific areas: the underarms (axillary hyperhidrosis), palms (palmar hyperhidrosis), or feet (plantar hyperhidrosis). Some clients have generalized hyperhidrosis affecting multiple areas.

The cause is overactive sympathetic nerve signaling to sweat glands. Botox blocks the signal at the nerve-sweat gland junction, dramatically reducing sweat production for four to six months.

Why Patients Seek Treatment

Clients come in after years of managing the condition with prescription antiperspirants, oral medications, or constant clothing changes. The first Botox treatment is often transformative. The confidence in social and professional situations returns immediately.

01

What Causes It

Hyperhidrosis is typically primary (idiopathic) and unrelated to other medical conditions.

Genetics determine baseline susceptibility. Primary hyperhidrosis runs in families.

Sympathetic nervous system overactivity drives the excessive sweating. The mechanism isn't fully understood.

Secondary hyperhidrosis from underlying conditions (thyroid issues, infections, neurological conditions, certain medications) can also cause excessive sweating. Sudden-onset hyperhidrosis or generalized sweating should be medically evaluated.

02

Common Signs

Excessive sweating that goes beyond what others experience. Visible sweat marks on clothing in normal conditions. Wet hands or feet that interfere with daily activities. Anxiety about social and professional situations involving handshakes, presentations, or close contact.

03

Why It Changes Over Time

Hyperhidrosis typically begins in adolescence or early adulthood and persists for life without treatment. The severity can shift with weight changes, stress, or hormonal patterns.

With Botox treatment, the relief lasts four to six months consistently. Many clients schedule treatments before summer or important seasons.

04

How It's Commonly Addressed

Several treatments address hyperhidrosis.

Botox injections are the most predictable in-office treatment. The toxin blocks acetylcholine release at the sweat gland synapse, stopping sweat production for four to six months.

Prescription antiperspirants with high-concentration aluminum chloride for milder cases.

Oral medications (glycopyrrolate, oxybutynin) block sweating systemically but have side effects.

Iontophoresis for palmar and plantar hyperhidrosis uses electrical current and water to reduce sweating.

miraDry (microwave thermolysis) permanently reduces underarm sweat glands.

Surgical sympathectomy for severe cases is a last-resort option.

How we approach excessive sweating

Botox is our primary tool for hyperhidrosis. The treatment is one of the most predictable in aesthetic medicine.

For axillary (underarm) hyperhidrosis, we inject a grid pattern of Botox across each underarm. The treatment takes about thirty minutes total. Most clients see significant reduction within seven to ten days, with full effect at two weeks. Results last four to six months.

For palmar (hand) hyperhidrosis, we discuss the procedure carefully. The injections are more sensitive due to nerve density in the hands, and we use topical numbing or nerve blocks. Results are equally predictable.

For plantar (feet) hyperhidrosis, similar approach with more numbing options.

Most clients schedule their first treatment, see the dramatic difference, and schedule maintenance every four to six months. The treatment is consistently rated one of the highest-satisfaction Botox indications.

I was truly blown away after my appointment here. Every single person I interacted with, from the front desk to the providers who handled my treatments, was incredible! They made me feel so welcomed and cared for, and were both informative and genuinely kind. The space itself is spotless, cozy, and easily the most inviting place I’ve ever been for Botox. Michelle did my Botox and she was amazing! I also had a hydrafacial and dermaplaning, and I already can’t wait to come back again and again. You will not regret booking here!
