Facial Asymmetry

Facial Asymmetry, Balanced

Every face is asymmetric. The work is balancing what reads as uneven, not forcing the mirror-image ideal that doesn't exist in nature.

What it is

Facial asymmetry is the difference between the left and right sides of the face. Every face is asymmetric to some degree. Small differences read as character. Larger differences can read as uneven or distracting.

Causes range from genetic anatomy to bone development, dental factors, sleep position, and habitual expression patterns. Some asymmetry is fixed. Some is adaptive and can be balanced.

Why Patients Seek Treatment

Clients come in noticing asymmetry in photos and selfies. They want to feel more balanced without losing the character their face has always had.

01

What Causes It

Several factors create or accentuate facial asymmetry.

Genetic and skeletal differences are the primary cause. Most faces develop slightly asymmetrically.

Dental and orthodontic factors can shift facial structure over years.

Habitual posture and sleep position influence how the face matures asymmetrically.

Neurological causes like Bell's palsy can create acquired asymmetry that requires medical assessment before aesthetic work.

02

Common Signs

Most clients first notice asymmetry in photos rather than mirrors. The mirror flips the image, so we see our own face as more symmetric than it actually is. Photos show the asymmetry directly.

Common patterns include uneven brow height, eyelid drape, cheek projection, nose alignment, and lip corners.

03

Why It Changes Over Time

Asymmetry typically becomes more pronounced with age as cheek volume loss, skin laxity, and bone resorption progress at slightly different rates on each side.

Sleep position, habitual posture, and habitual expression patterns can subtly increase asymmetry over decades.

04

How It's Commonly Addressed

The industry approach is targeted filler, neuromodulator, or both, placed asymmetrically to balance the more deflated or weaker side. Some clinics also use laser or other resurfacing for surface asymmetry.

The risk is over-correction. Forcing symmetry often makes asymmetry more obvious.

How we approach facial asymmetry

We map the face you actually have. Most faces are slightly asymmetric, and forcing symmetric treatment often makes the asymmetry more obvious, not less.

Treatment is targeted and conservative. We may add filler to one side, neuromodulator to one side, or both, depending on what reads as uneven. The goal is balance, not identical sides.

For asymmetry from neurological causes, we coordinate with the client's medical team before aesthetic treatment.

I was truly blown away after my appointment here. Every single person I interacted with, from the front desk to the providers who handled my treatments, was incredible! They made me feel so welcomed and cared for, and were both informative and genuinely kind. The space itself is spotless, cozy, and easily the most inviting place I’ve ever been for Botox. Michelle did my Botox and she was amazing! I also had a hydrafacial and dermaplaning, and I already can’t wait to come back again and again. You will not regret booking here!
