Skin Laxity

Skin Laxity, Tightened

Skin laxity is the most honest conversation we have. We can tighten and slow progression. We can't replicate what surgery does. Both things are true.

What it is

Skin laxity refers to the loss of firmness and elasticity in the skin, typically appearing as sagging, loosened texture, or reduced "snap" when the skin is pinched and released. It's most visible on the lower face, neck, jawline, and arms.

The underlying cause is collagen and elastin decline. The structural proteins that keep skin firm gradually decrease starting in the late twenties.

Skin laxity exists on a spectrum. Mild laxity responds well to non-surgical treatment. Significant laxity is better addressed surgically. We're honest about which path is right for which client.

Why Patients Seek Treatment

Clients come in noticing softening of the jawline, looser skin on the neck, or sagging on the arms. They want to address it without surgery. Treatment can produce significant improvement for the right candidate. We're honest with clients whose laxity is better addressed surgically.

01

What Causes It

Several factors drive skin laxity.

Aging reduces collagen production by about 1% per year starting in the late twenties.

Sun damage breaks down both collagen and elastin in the skin.

Genetics determine how quickly skin loses firmness.

Hormonal changes particularly menopause, accelerate collagen loss dramatically.

Significant weight loss leaves the skin with less volume beneath it.

Gravity over decades pulls the lower face and neck downward.

02

Common Signs

Skin laxity is most visible on the lower face (jawline softening, jowls), neck (loose skin, vertical bands), upper arms (loose underarm skin), and abdomen (after pregnancy or weight loss).

The skin pinch test: pinch the skin on the back of the hand and release. Firm skin springs back immediately. Lax skin returns slowly.

03

Why It Changes Over Time

Skin laxity progresses gradually over decades. The thirties and forties show mild changes. The fifties and sixties show more significant laxity. Without treatment, the progression continues.

With consistent treatment, mild laxity can be improved meaningfully and progression slowed. Significant laxity may need surgical intervention for transformative results.

04

How It's Commonly Addressed

Skin tightening responds to several modalities.

Biostimulators (Sculptra, Radiesse) stimulate long-term collagen production for structural improvement.

Microneedling with radiofrequency (Morpheus8, Vivace) at clinics that have it heats the deeper layers to stimulate collagen.

Microneedling (SkinPen) with growth factors or PRP builds collagen.

Fractional laser (Halo) resurfaces and stimulates collagen.

Ultrasound (Ultherapy) at clinics that have it heats deeper tissue.

Surgical lift remains the gold standard for significant laxity.

How we approach skin laxity

We're honest. Skin tightening from a med spa works on a spectrum. Mild to moderate laxity responds well. Significant laxity is better addressed surgically, and we say so.

For the right candidate, our typical plan combines Sculptra for long-term collagen production with SkinPen microneedling for surface and structural collagen building. Halo adds surface resurfacing where needed.

We don't currently have radiofrequency microneedling (Morpheus8, Vivace) or focused ultrasound (Ultherapy) on platform. These are excellent tools for skin tightening that some clinics offer.

For significant laxity, we discuss surgical referral. A facelift, neck lift, or arm lift produces transformative results that no non-surgical treatment can replicate.

I was truly blown away after my appointment here. Every single person I interacted with, from the front desk to the providers who handled my treatments, was incredible! They made me feel so welcomed and cared for, and were both informative and genuinely kind. The space itself is spotless, cozy, and easily the most inviting place I’ve ever been for Botox. Michelle did my Botox and she was amazing! I also had a hydrafacial and dermaplaning, and I already can’t wait to come back again and again. You will not regret booking here!
