Spider Veins

Spider Veins, Cleared

Spider veins respond well to two different treatments. The right one depends on where they are and what they look like.

Different vessels need different treatments.

What it is

Spider veins are thin, visible vessels that appear at or near the skin's surface, most commonly on the legs. They can be red, blue, or purple, and form patterns that resemble spider webs or tree branches.

They're closely related to broken capillaries on the face, but typically larger, deeper, and located on legs rather than face. Treatment differs accordingly.

Why Patients Seek Treatment

Clients come in tired of hiding their legs. They want to wear shorts, dresses, and swimwear without self-consciousness. Many have considered treatment for years before moving forward.

01

What Causes It

Several factors contribute to spider veins on the legs.

Genetics are the strongest determinant. Spider veins run in families.

Prolonged standing increases pressure on leg veins, contributing to development.

Hormonal changes from pregnancy, birth control, or HRT can trigger or worsen them.

Sun damage, weight changes, and aging all contribute.

Underlying venous insufficiency can cause spider veins. Significant or widespread spider veins should be evaluated to rule out larger venous issues.

02

Common Signs

Spider veins appear as visible thin lines on the legs, ankles, and occasionally feet. They're often clustered, forming web-like or branching patterns.

Some clients have a few discrete vessels. Others have networks across the thighs, knees, or ankles. Both respond well to treatment.

03

Why It Changes Over Time

Spider veins typically develop in the thirties and progress over decades. Pregnancy, weight changes, and prolonged standing all accelerate their appearance.

Treatment is durable. Treated vessels typically don't return. New vessels can develop, especially during pregnancy or with significant lifestyle factors.

04

How It's Commonly Addressed

The industry treats spider veins with two primary modalities.

Sclerotherapy is the gold standard for leg spider veins. A sclerosing solution is injected directly into the vein, causing it to close off and be reabsorbed over weeks.

Vascular laser (Nd:YAG, like ClearV) targets vessels with light energy. Best for smaller, surface-level vessels and for clients who don't tolerate sclerotherapy.

The right choice depends on vessel size, depth, and location.

How we approach spider veins

Spider veins on the legs respond best to sclerotherapy. A sclerosing solution is injected directly into the vein with a fine needle. The vessel closes off and the body reabsorbs it over weeks.

Most clients see significant clearance in two to four sessions, spaced four to six weeks apart. Downtime is minimal: compression garments for a day or two, no aggressive exercise for a week.

For surface-level vessels or for clients who prefer not to have injections, ClearV laser can clear smaller spider veins. The results are often slightly slower than sclerotherapy but predictable.

For widespread or severe spider veins, we may recommend evaluation by a vein specialist to rule out underlying venous insufficiency.

I was truly blown away after my appointment here. Every single person I interacted with, from the front desk to the providers who handled my treatments, was incredible! They made me feel so welcomed and cared for, and were both informative and genuinely kind. The space itself is spotless, cozy, and easily the most inviting place I’ve ever been for Botox. Michelle did my Botox and she was amazing! I also had a hydrafacial and dermaplaning, and I already can’t wait to come back again and again. You will not regret booking here!
