About this area

Why crow's feet are the earliest line on the face

Crow's feet are the lateral lines that fan from the outer corner of the eye, created by the contraction of the orbicularis oculi muscle that surrounds and closes the eye. Every smile, squint, and reaction fires this muscle. The lines that develop over time are the visible record.

Unlike forehead lines or the 11s, crow's feet have a layer of cultural meaning attached. They mean someone smiles. The treatment philosophy here matters: we soften, we don't erase. A smile without any movement at the eyes reads false.

Softening crow's feet without losing the smile

The orbicularis oculi is a circular muscle that surrounds and closes the eye. It has three functional parts.

Lateral fibers drive most of the crow's feet pattern. They contract with smiling, squinting, and emotional expression.

Lower fibers contribute to the dynamic lines that extend below the lateral canthus.

Pretarsal fibers sit closer to the eye and are involved in the protective blink reflex.

Treatment focuses on the lateral fibers, with placement that respects the surrounding muscles and the natural mechanics of the smile.

How this changes over time

Crow's feet are evidence that you've spent your face well.

Crow's feet appear earlier than most facial lines, often in the late twenties for clients who smile easily or have lighter skin. Dynamic lines, the ones visible only when smiling, come first. Static lines develop later, settling into the skin even at rest.

Sun exposure accelerates the appearance dramatically. The thin skin around the eyes is among the first to show damage. Clients who spent their summers without sunglasses or sunscreen often have more pronounced crow's feet than expression alone would predict.

In Your 20s

Lines appear when smiling or squinting but the skin returns smooth at rest. Sun exposure and lifestyle determine pace more than age. Clients in this decade often treat preventively or selectively.

In Your 30s

Dynamic lines become more pronounced and may begin to appear at rest. Skin quality matters more here. Surface treatment alongside neuromodulator delivers better results than either alone.

In Your 40s

Static lines appear. The fans extend further across the face. Treatment plans often combine neuromodulator with laser or microneedling to address both muscle and surface.

In Your 50s+

The treatment plan widens. Neuromodulator continues to soften movement, skin treatments address resurfacing, and small amounts of HA filler may address specific deep lines. Skin quality becomes as important as muscle relaxation.

How we treat crow's feet

Crow's feet are a careful injectable area. Place too high and you can affect brow position. Place too low and you can affect the cheek and smile mechanics. We treat with three injection points per side in a fanning pattern that mirrors the lines themselves.

Dosing varies widely by client. Heavier expression movers need more. Lighter movers need less. Most plans use six to twelve units of Botox per side or the equivalent in Dysport or Daxxify. The goal is reduction, not elimination of movement.

Results take five to ten days to show fully. Most clients return every three to four months.

For static lines that no longer respond fully to neuromodulator, we add resurfacing. The skin around the eye responds well to gentle laser, Moxi in particular. Combining neuromodulator with skin work often delivers the result that neuromodulator alone can't.

I was truly blown away after my appointment here. Every single person I interacted with, from the front desk to the providers who handled my treatments, was incredible! They made me feel so welcomed and cared for, and were both informative and genuinely kind. The space itself is spotless, cozy, and easily the most inviting place I’ve ever been for Botox. Michelle did my Botox and she was amazing! I also had a hydrafacial and dermaplaning, and I already can’t wait to come back again and again. You will not regret booking here!
